Engine air filter

The engine air filter, known also as the air intake filter, is a very crucial part of the motor vehicle’s intake system. Apart from its primary function, it serves to screen various materials such as dirt, dust, debris, and other unwanted materials that should not enter the engine’s combustion chambers.

It helps contain contaminated air from infiltrating the fuel flow, which is essential in the combustion process. This enhances the cycle’s efficiency in its combustion process, increasing fuel economy and the lifespan of the engine.

Installed:

The air filter is usually installed in either a plastic housing or a metal box, which requires linking to the crankcase chamber of the engine. The air filter, located where the air enters the intake system, initially filters contaminants on the outer surface of the filter media.

In the long run, dust and dirt will collect on the cover, potentially causing the air filter to block adequate air circulation towards the engine, resulting in low performance.

Regulation:

During overhauling and other duties, one must regularly remove and replace the engine air filter and also assess its condition during the inspection. Per their specifications, most car manufacturers indicate the desired time for changing the air filter depending on the mileage used or other circumstances encountered on the road.

One should wash it regularly, and if it becomes dirty, one should change it since it may have an adverse impact on the fuel economy, horsepower, and torque of a car.
